Hello, I'm Simran
I'm a Design Researcher and believe I have Orca roots.
I'm passionate about participatory and generative design, design strategy, data visualization & textiles design.

Where I've Worked
Currently, I hold the position of Senior Associate Design Researcher at Noora Health's incubator lab, The Caregiving Labs. In this role, I leverage human-centered methodologies to address unmet needs and objectives. Presently, I am actively working on a project focused on caregivers of individuals facing high-risk ailments in India.
I have always loved teaching, I consult for The Circle, an organisation that strives to reimagine schools and after schools. At The Circle, with cohorts to solve problems.
In 2022 I joined TinkerLabs, an innovation consulting agency as a Design Researcher. Here I work on problem-solving through Design Thinking & Behavioural Science with companies like Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Population Control India. I also participate in Training and Workings for companies like HP, and Dasra and educational institutes like MICA and IIM.
Formerly, I worked with The Museum of Solutions for 2 years where I combined my love for the oceans, design research, education and working with children. At MuSo, I had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most talented exhibit designers, architects, educators and designers like Argyle Design, The Brewhouse, Teach For India, Edios to name a few.
Many weekends are spent at home illustrating or freelancing. The Mollem Project is one of them, it's an NGO that is advocating for the movement against 3 mega-infrastructure projects cutting through Goa's biodiversity. I often make data visualisations for them.
A question I'm asked a lot is how a textile major ends up on the design team of a museum. Here's a blog I wrote answering that.
A month before MuSo I had completed my thesis project at Tracon ESPL. My thesis project was an intersection between coral bleaching, female handicraft and math. This inspired one of the 2 collections of home linens - fall20 and spring-summer 20 I created at Tracon. I spent my research phase of the project in Karur, Tamil Nadu where I studied weaving, dying and embroidery processes first hand.
In 2017 I created a publication in collaboration with Aavriti Khushwaha - The Juttis of Punjab. This was my first research-based project where I was on the field documenting craft practices and leather through the application of design research methods. At the end of the project, we were able to publish a book, a photobook and a film.
During my school days, I spent a good amount of time playing hockey. I spent my last three years at school on the national team. I've had a fairly sporty front - here's something to look at (watch out for the boxer, that's me).
I love spend most of my free time cooking for my dog and my friends. I enjoy cookies, coffee and morning runs.
